Healthcare
JHI’s core program focuses on sending Jewish healthcare
professionals from Israel and the Diaspora on ongoing, week-long
missions to several communities in Eastern Europe, the Former Soviet
Union and Israel. These teams of physicians, dentists, nurses and
therapists train local medical personnel in a variety of different
specialties. Through seminars, one-on-one training, second-opinion
consultations, and visits to agencies, schools, and homes, JHI provides
critical healthcare to thousands of people in these communities
in need. The experience is so positive that JHI maintains a waiting
list of healthcare professionals anxious to go on future missions.
Because JHI has worked hard to develop partnerships and leverage
resources in the communities we serve, our partners throughout the
world have come to see the organization as a source for action when
it comes to life or death situations that cannot be solved locally.
These range from coordinating long-distance consultations, to procuring
medications, to arranging for surgeries in the U.S. and Israel.
Since 1999, JHI has leveraged medical care for over 10,000 patients
in these communities in need.
Each year, JHI volunteers deliver over 150 lectures to more than
5,000 local physicians, homecare workers, and other healthcare professionals
who in turn provide a higher quality of care to hundreds of thousands
of people. In addition, JHI volunteers provide health promotion
education to community groups of all ages in the Jewish community.
These lectures and educational programs may be short-term commitments
for the JHI volunteers, but the long-term results affect entire
communities.
In each host community, JHI serves:
| |
• Children and Families- in the areas of
physical and mental heath, disease prevention and dentistry.
• Elderly- in the gerontology aspect of all subspecialties,
rehabilitation, mental health and dentistry. • Healthcare
Professionals- through JHI-provided skill enhancement, seminars,
hands-on work with JHI teams and access to professional literature
and Medical Institutions, and through JHI-provided seminars,
equipment and training.
