Kiev, Ukraine

The city of Kiev has the largest Jewish population in Ukraine (over 100,000). The elderly make up over 30% of this population and have limited access to the medical system. JHI, together with the Jewish Federation/ Jewish United Fund of Metropolitan Chicago, are developing a tri-city project in Ophthalmology, that will include Chicago, Kiev (FSU "twin city"), and Kiriyat Gat ("Partnership 2000 city in Israel). Through "Hesed Avot " (Jewish Social Welfare Center), we will establish collaborations local hospitals in order to enhance the medical infrastructure in the field of ophthalmology, thus providing easier access, improved care and quality of life for the Jewish and non-Jewish populations.
