JHI Volunteer assignments are continuously growing and changing to meet the needs of a changing world. JHI is actively recruiting for volunteers for the follow programs:
Ethiopian Pre-Aliyah Screening & Referral Program
JHI volunteers conduct medical examinations and screen for vision and hearing problems at a JHI clinic in Gondar, Ethiopia. Patients are Ethiopians waiting to make aliyah (immigrate to Israel). Examination and screening information is documented and send to Absorption Centers in Israel, who will be receiving the olim (new immigrants), and can now prepare to better handle their unique medical conditions.
Volunteer assignments in Ethiopia are for a minimum of 2 weeks, but can be extended even longer. Volunteers are responsible for their airfare and a $1500 mission fee. JHI takes care of hotel and living expenses. Volunteer assignments in records documentation and intake are available for non-medical spouses and companions. Dates of travel can be flexible and fit to your individual schedule.

Israel Youth Village Screening & Referral Program
RECRUITING NOW
Youth villages in Israel provide education and support for both native Israelis and new immigrant youth, who face a variety of challenges. Currently, youth village residents are not screened for vision and hearing problems. JHI volunteers will visit one or more youth villages over four working days, and conduct vision and hearing screenings.
Each volunteer screening team will be led by a healthcare professional, preferably a pediatrician, ophthalmologist or family medicine doctor. Additional team members can be either medical or non-medical, and will be responsible for both conducting screenings and data collection.
Volunteers teams spend five days at an Israel youth village, screening residents for vision and hearing problems. Upcoming missions are scheduled for January, March and May of 2013. (See Missions Calendar for exact dates.) Volunteers are responsible for their airfare and a $500, tax-deductible mission fee. JHI covers all living expenses.

Haiti Emergency Medical/Critical Care Training at Justinian University Hospital
JHI sends teams of volunteers to Justinian University Hospital in Northern Haiti. They work in the hospital’s new Critical Care Unit (CCU), built last year by Israel Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Agency for International Development (known by the acronym MASHAV).
Volunteers specializing in Emergency and Trauma Medicine are needed.
A typical Haiti mission lasts one week. Each volunteer will deliver one to two lectures per day, with the remainder of the day spent working hands-on with interns, residents, and practicing physicians in the CCU. Volunteers are responsible for their airfare to and from Miami, FL and a $1500 mission fee. JHI takes care of airfare from Miami to Cap-Hatien, and hotel and living expenses. Missions FY2013 missions are scheduled for: August & December 2012, and March & June 2012. (See Missions Calendar for exact dates.)
